CURB APPEAL

With spring right around the corner (although, those in Texas might say it’s already here) it’s time to start thinking about how to brighten up the front of your home. Weather you’re looking to sell in the near future, want a more inviting facade, or just like doing projects – I’ve compiled a list of ideas to get you started!

Painting – Keep it simple, or go big. Paint your front door a brand new color or just freshen up the current color that you know and love. Your garage door, shutters, window and door trim may all benefit from a new coat of paint as well. While you’ve got the brushes and old clothes out, think about refreshing the stain on your porch.

Fixtures & Hardware – New fixtures on your home can be just the update you need. This include doorknobs, knockers, doorbells, hinges, lights, fans, house numbers, your mailbox, etc. Take a stroll down the aisle at Lowes, browse amazon, pop into antique/thrift shops, or search Etsy.

Plants – My favorite! Adding and highlighting plants in a variety of ways can bring new life to your home (inside and out). If you have existing bushes and beds, trim and wild branches and refresh the mulch. Include plants of different sizes, textures, colors, and heights. Adding window boxes and potted plants allows you to add color and you are able to easily change the contents throughout the seasons. If you have any trees, try adding lighting to show off the feature by uplighting or put a light in the tree to provide lighting for the yard from above.

Porch Decor – If you have a doormat that has seen too many shoes, place a new one down. If your porch is large enough for furniture, clean it up! Your furniture could benefit from a wipe down, new coat of paint, new pillows or upholstery, or new arrangement.

Lighting – I’ve mentioned previously updating lighting fixtures and tree lighting, but also think about replacing your current light bulbs with energy efficient LED light bulbs. Illuminate your walkways by placing solar lights along the sides. I’ve become a big fan of the wifi LED light bulbs. I am able to turn them on and off, as well as set schedules from my phone, which gives me peace of mind while we are out of town. Some of them even have the ability to change colors – which makes decorating for Halloween and Christmas a little more fun.

Fencing – Fencing is great because it can provide privacy, security, keep the pets in, and the pests out. It can also be used to hide unsightly AC units and trash/recycling bins.
