I’ve been following @dallassilkart for a while and finally made it out to Grandscape in Plano to make some water marbled artwork. Heading to Dallas Silk Art is 100% worth the drive if you’re coming from Dallas or Fort Worth. We went during rush hour (poor planning on my part) and it only took an hour.

Dallas Silk Art is in an area called The Homestead. There’s a wine bar across from the art studio you can order from before heading to your class or while you’re in the studio (they’ll bring it to you!). Try the nitro mimosa while you’re there.

The process of water marbling is so fun and easy. They have trays ready for you filled with a water/carrageenan mixture to help the paint float on the top. You’ll pick your colors from a large selection of paint and start dropping them on the water, being sure not to break the surface tension. Once you’re happy with your color distribution, you’ll start raking pins or a wooden stick through the paint to create your design.

They offer a ton of options as far as what you want to print your design on. The most popular is silk (hence the name), but we chose to print on paper to frame and hang in our home. You can also make masks, coasters, hats, and shoes.

If you’re looking for a fun date night, girls night out, solo adventure, or are entertaining out-of-towners – I highly recommend heading to Dallas Silk Art! I’m already wanting to go back to print on silk scarves to wear as sarongs over my bikinis, make Christmas presents, and try new designs, color combinations, and techniques.
